Planning permissions secured for the redevelopment of former golf club to create new high-quality holiday destination

Commentary

APT worked with the original owner of Whitekirk Golf and Country Club following its closure to assess alternative future uses, identifying the opportunity for a high-quality holiday destination. 

APT introduced the project to a local developer who subsequently bought the site in line with the tourism related proposal.

APT assembled the multi-disciplinary project team required for a project of this scale and complexity. 

We engaged with East Lothian Council from the outset, managing the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) scoping and preparation process coordinating the input from the project team.

Preparation and submission of application for planning permission for the conversion of the existing clubhouse to café, soft play, restaurant and leisure club. 

Preparation and submission of application for planning permission in principle for development of luxury holiday lodge destination with accompanying EIA. This included a formal pre-application exhibition with accompanying Pre-Application Consultation Report.

Pre-and post-submission liaison with council officials, local politicians and community groups.

Outcome

Planning permission secured for the redevelopment of the clubhouse and the development of holiday lodges.

Impact

Whitekirk Hill is now a thriving new visitor and local resident destination
